Preparation
Make sure that the surface is sound, clean, dry and free from grease.
- Use a fine waterproof abrasive paper to rub down any bare timber to remove any sharp edges or raised grains.
- Apply Knotting Solution to knots and resinous surfaces.
- Use a fine waterproof abrasive paper to provide a key if you're painting previously painted surfaces. Wear a suitable face mask if dry sanding. Pre-1960s paint removal over wood and metal need special precautions as they may contain harmful lead.
Application
Always perform a test on a small inconspicuous area to ensure compatibility, and we recommend following the manufacturer's instructions found on the tin.
- Stir well before use. Apply generously by brush or roller, firmly into the surface.
- Be sure to treat the end grain as wel as the main surface of any timber.
- If you are applying a gloss finish, add a second coat of the Leyland Acrylic Primer Undercoat, which makes a great undercoat for the gloss paint.
- Apply in temperatures of 10 degrees celsius or above and avoid applying when it's likely to rain.
