Overview

Johnstone's Chalky Furniture Paint is so easy to use. It's been formulated to cover almost any surface without any prep. A great choice for upcycling projects around the home, it comes in eight contemporary shades. The flat, chalky finish works really well with furniture, to give it a stylish, modern upgrade. Perfect for keen DIY enthusiasts, you can transform your home in no time, with minimal fuss. It is recommended that you complete and protect your furniture with a Johnstone’s Revive Finishing Wax.

To purchase the paint and a clear finishing wax as a bundle, firstly select your paint colour from the drop down menu, then select '500ml clear wax' from the Wax or Lacquer menu.

Clean Up Remove as much product as possible from application equipment before cleaning. Wash immediately after use in warm soapy water and rinse thoroughly.

Preparation

Ensure to clean the surface, making sure it's dry and free from grease, waxes or polish.

  • Wash with mild detergent solution, rinse thoroughly with clean water and allow to dry completely.
  • For a solid finish, smooth surfaces should be lightly sanded with a fine waterproof abrasive paper to provide a key.
  • For previously painted surfaces, remove any flaking or blistering areas and rub down well with a fine waterproof abrasive paper. Wear a suitable face mask if dry sanding to avoid inhaling dust. Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead.

Application

Always test a small area of the surface to be painted to ensure you are happy with the finished results and follow the manufacturer's instructions found on the tin.

  • For a distressed finish apply 2 coats of the same or contrasting coloured or metallic paint
  • Allow 4 hours between coats
  • Lightly sand to distress edges and reveal layers
  • For a solid finish Apply 2 coats
  • Allow 4 hours between coats
  • Finish with , to protect your furniture

Apply with a brush or roller only. Spraying is not advised.
